The Senate on June 25 confirmed John S. Pistole as the new head of the Transportation Security Administration and as assistant secretary to the Department of Homeland Security.
Pistole had served as deputy director of the FBI since October 2004. Prior to that, he worked in the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division. Before joining the bureau, he practiced law for two years.
During his nomination hearing before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, he testified that if confirmed he would use the lessons he learned while at the FBI to further enhance TSA’s counterterrorism efforts across all modes of transportation to keep the traveling public safe.
Pistole was nominated by President Barack Obama on May 17.
