A U.S. Fire Administration report (.pdf file) released this week highlights the findings of a long-term study on the respiratory health of firefighters.
Created through a partnership with the Washington-based International Association of Fire Fighters, the report covers a wide range of conditions, including bronchitis and pneumonia, tuberculosis, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, asbestos-related lung diseases, and lung cancer.
“USFA is committed to enhancing the occupational health and safety of America’s fire service,” Acting U.S. Fire Administrator Glenn Gaines said. “The purpose of this initiative is to provide information to the fire service on the mitigation of the long-term effects of occupational respiratory exposure.”
