Washington – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Consumer Healthcare Products Association Educational Foundation are urging parents to keep children safe from unintentional medication overdoses while traveling this summer.
Unintentional medication overdoses among young children have increased by 20 percent over recent years, according to a CHPA press release. The organizations offer the following safety tips for storing medicines and vitamins while traveling:
- When packing for a trip, keep medicines in their original child-resistant containers.
- When staying in a hotel, store medicines and vitamins out of the reach of children, such as in a cabinet or safe.
- Program the national Poison Help number, (800) 222-1222, into your cell phone in case of an emergency.
