Approximately 1.3 million people worked in truck transportation in 2011, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nearly 70,000 recordable injuries were reported that year at a rate of 4.9 per 100 full-time workers. The rate for cases involving days away from work, job restriction or transfer was 3.2.
