Virginia Foxx is new chair of House Education and the Workforce Committee

Washington — The House Steering Committee has selected Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) to serve as chair of the renamed Education and the Workforce Committee for the 118th Congress.

Foxx previously served as chair of that committee from 2017 to 2019. Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) was the chair of the Education and Labor Committee in the 117th Congress and will serve as ranking member on the new committee.

Foxx has promised oversight as one of her top priorities, stating that officials in the Biden administration should “think about investing in a parking space” on Capitol Hill.

“I am deeply honored by the trust placed in me by my colleagues to chair a committee whose work touches the lives of every American,” Foxx said in a press release. “I do not take this trust or responsibility lightly. I will use my position to protect the rights of workers, job creators, students and parents.”
