Suicide prevention in construction: Webinar set for Sept. 5

Silver Spring, MD — Creating a “culture of care” is among the topics to be discussed during an upcoming webinar on preventing suicide in the construction industry.

Hosted by CPWR – The Center for Construction Research and Training, the webinar is set for 2 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 5. Speakers include Amber Trueblood, data center director at CPWR. Trueblood will present findings from her two recent peer-reviewed articles and a CPWR Data Bulletin on trends in suicide, mental health and related factors.

Jessica Bunting, director of CPWR’s Research to Practice initiative and at-large director of the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention, and Jamie Becker, director of health promotion for the Laborers’ Health and Safety Fund of North America and chair of the CIASP board of trustees, will outline how employers can cultivate a culture of care by:

  • Improving worker well-being.
  • Intervening during a crisis.
  • Establishing resources and programs to support people who’ve been impacted by a suicide.

Trisha M. Calabrese, senior vice president of programs at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, will share information and resources from her organization.

The event will wrap up with a Q&A session. Questions can be submitted during registration, which is required to attend.
