NSC honors Stephanie Miller with Marion Martin Award

New Orleans — Stephanie Miller is the 2023 recipient of the Marion Martin Award, presented annually by the National Safety Council.

Miller, a safety and health manager for critical projects and waste operations at United Cleanup Oak Ridge, was honored Monday during the Opening Session of the NSC Safety Congress & Expo. UCOR manages environmental cleanup for the Department of Energy at the Oak Ridge (TN) Reservation.

Miller has led initiatives to help UCOR achieve 10 million hours worked without a lost-time incident. She also aided in the promotion and advancement of more than 20 female safety colleagues and has bolstered the development of more than 100 safety and health professionals from around the country.

Additionally, Miller has championed UCOR’s Women’s Resource Group, an internal support community for women in the workplace.

“NSC is proud to celebrate women who are committed to safety and inclusion through its Marion Martin Award, and Stephanie Miller is a professional we are thrilled to honor this year,” said NSC President and CEO Lorraine M. Martin. “Stephanie has helped advance the careers of more than 20 women in safety and health roles during her time at UCOR and embodies the spirit of this award through and through. It is with great pleasure we present her with this award.”

NSC established the Marion Martin Award in 2016 to honor women who have achieved safety excellence and encouraged fellow women to pursue safety careers.

The late Marion Martin, a government official in Maine for more than 40 years, was the state’s commissioner of labor and industry from 1947 to 1972. She also was the first woman honored with NSC’s Distinguished Service to Safety Award in 1971.
