VA offers ‘Exposure Ed’ app for military veterans

Washington – A new mobile app from the Department of Veterans Affairs aims to help health care providers deliver information about chemical, physical and environmental hazards that military veterans may have encountered during service.

Possible exposures include burn pits, contaminated water and asbestos. The free “Exposure Ed” app also provides information about how to discuss these exposures with patients and what VA programs and benefits are available to them.

The app allows a user to search in three different ways: by exposure name, by date and location of military service, and by specific military conflict. Health care providers can share notes with patients through the app.

The department cautions that the app is “not a substitute for clinical judgment.”
