Alexandria, VA – As the new school year begins, the nonprofit organization Operation Lifesaver is unveiling an educational campaign to help bus drivers safely cross railroad tracks.
The organization’s six-step Safety Route Reminder (.pdf file) encourages bus drivers and other motorists to stop and practice safety at railroad crossings.
“School buses must open the door and stop prior to the crossing to give a good view down the tracks,” said Operation Lifesaver President Helen Sramek. “Other vehicle drivers are reminded to stop when behind a school bus at a railroad crossing. These actions will help keep our students safe.”
OL teamed with the National Association for Pupil Transportation and the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services to provide posters to bus drivers nationwide.
