Washington state announces stakeholder meeting on abatement rule

Tumwater, WA – Washington state’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health is scheduled to host a stakeholder meeting Aug. 25 to begin working on a rule for stay of abatement requests.

The rulemaking is required by legislation signed by Gov. Chris Gregoire (D) in April. Under Senate Bill 5068 (.pdf file), businesses must correct serious safety violations and hazards even while fighting a citation. Employers may seek a stay of abatement by submitting an appeal.

Washington DOSH invites stakeholders to:

  • Provide information on best practices and current technologies
  • Discuss implementation and logistical issues
  • Help develop clear and concise rule linage
