Men more likely than women to die from injury: study

Philadelphia – Men are more likely than women to die as a result of an injury, indicates a study released July 29 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice.

The study examined data on injury-related deaths collected between 1981 and 2007. During that period, 2.9 million men died of injury-related deaths, compared with 1.1 million women. The pattern of men being more prone to injury death exists across all age groups and ethnicities.

“In the last generation, men’s risk of unintentional and violence-related injury overall is at least 2 or 3 times that of women during each year,” said study author Susan B. Sorenson.
