Washington – Bipartisan legislation intended to update the decades-old Federal Employees’ Compensation Act moved out of committee to the full House on July 13.
The Federal Workers’ Compensation Modernization and Improvement Act (H.R. 2465) would make the first significant reforms to FECA since 1974. Supported by the top two Democrats and Republicans on the Education and the Workforce Committee, the legislation was reported to the full House during a markup session with little debate.
Among the updates:
- Makes explicit that injuries caused by terrorist attacks are covered
- Increases maximum benefits for funeral expenses and facial disfigurement
- Expands the pool of medical providers to include physician assistants and advanced practice nurses
