CPSC releases PSAs on pool, spa safety

Washington – In time for the summer swim season, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has released a series of public service announcements highlighting the importance of water safety.

The PSAs – released April 19 – recommend steps parents can take to ensure their child’s safety near pools and spas. The television PSAs highlight four families whose children were protected by safety measures such as pool fences, door alarms, anti-entrapment drain covers and a CPR-certified supervisor. The radio spots advocate swimming lessons.

In the first few months of 2011, 37 drownings and 38 near-drownings were reported by media across the country, CPSC said.
