Springfield, IL – The Illinois House of Representatives on April 12 unanimously approved a bill that would allow law enforcement to document on accident reports whether cell phone use was the cause of a motor vehicle crash.
Reps. John D’Amico (D), Dan Brady (R) and Joseph M. Lyons (D) were the primary sponsors of the Cellular Phone Use and Automobile Accidents Reporting Act (H.B. 865). The legislation also directs the Department of Transportation to compile statistics from state, county and municipal law enforcement agencies related to cell phone use and automobile crashes. The bill awaits Illinois Senate review.
