Washington — The House Appropriations Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Subcommittee has approved a bill that would allocate more than $8.2 million to the Chemical Safety Board for fiscal year 2027.
In its budget request released in April, the Trump administration once again is seeking to shutter the nonregulatory agency. It’s the sixth such attempt since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s first term in 2017. Congress hasn’t obliged with any of the requests.
The House bill would cut CSB’s budget by more than 41%, or around $5.8 million. The agency has a $14 million budget for FY 2026, which ends Sept. 30.
The House Appropriations Committee is set to consider the bill during a June 3 markup. The Senate is expected to put forth a bill that covers CSB funding soon.
