Salem, OR — Students from Sherwood and Cleveland high schools took first place in this year’s Oregon OSHA media contest to promote young worker safety and health awareness.
For the 17th annual contest – organized by the Oregon Young Employee Safety Coalition, known as O[yes] – high school students were challenged to create either a 30- to 90-second video or graphic design that inspires young workers to take O[yes] online Safety Awareness Training.
Sherwood High School’s Kolbe Johnson won $500 for his first-place entry in the video category, titled Say Oh Yes to O[yes]. The video highlights common workplace hazards and equipment that young workers may encounter.
In the graphic design category, Cleveland High School’s Cipriano Johnson won the $500 first-place prize for his “Safety Comes First” poster. It features three teen workers wearing proper personal protective equipment, as well as a web link and QR code to the O[yes] training.
The first-place winners also earned a $500 prize for their schools.
