Annual ‘Roadcheck’ identifies vehicle and driver violations

Greenbelt, MD — The results of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s 37th annual International Roadcheck are in.

Over three days in May, inspectors across North America – many from law enforcement – checked braking systems, lights, tires and other equipment on commercial trucks and buses.

Nearly 49,000 inspections were conducted. CVSA says 4.8% of the vehicles and 23% of the drivers inspected were placed out of service. Defective service brakes accounted for 25% of vehicle out-of-service violations, followed by tires (20.8%) and other brake violations (18.3%). The leading causes of driver out-of-service violations were hours of service (32.1%), no commercial driver’s license (25.4%) and no medical card (11.2%).
