Greenbelt, MD — Brake-related violations led to 8.7% of inspected trucks and buses being placed out of service during the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s most recent Brake Safety Day event.
Of the 4,569 vehicles checked by law enforcement personnel throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico on April 22, inspectors placed 398 out of service. Violations included worn brake lines/hoses and broken brake drums/rotors.
The event was part of CVSA’s Operation Airbrake, conducted in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, and Mexico’s Ministry of Communications and Transportation and National Guard.
CMV inspectors across North America are set to conduct announced and unannounced brake system inspections Aug. 24-30 during CVSA’s annual Brake Safety Week, part of Brake Safety Awareness Month.
