Philadelphia – A New Jersey law requiring teen drivers to display a decal indicating their Graduated Driver Licensing status may have contributed to a 9 percent decrease in the crash rate among teens in the probationary period, according to a new study from the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Truck driver survey asks about HOS restart rule changes

Arlington, VA – The American Transportation Research Institute, the research arm of the American Trucking Associations, is encouraging commercial motor vehicle drivers and carriers to take a new survey about changes to the 34-hour restart provision in federal hours-of-service regulations. The changes are set to go into effect July 1, 2013, unless appealed.

Passenger car injuries, fatalities decline; light truck rates up: study

Washington – The proportion of all roadway traffic fatalities that include occupants of passenger cars has declined – from 63 percent to 56 percent between 2001 and 2010 – while the percentage of light truck occupant fatalities has increased, according to a study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Center for Statistics and Analysis.

Study analyzes child use of ATVs

New Orleans – Children younger than 16 experience about 40 percent of all-terrain vehicle injuries and fatalities in the United States, according to a new study presented Oct. 22 at the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition.
