Whistleblower program to undergo changes

OSHA’s Whistleblower Protection Program will report directly to agency administrator David Michaels instead of the Directorate of Enforcement as part of several changes the agency announced Aug. 1. The reforms, which also include a national training conference for federal and state investigators, are aimed at improving the program in light of deficiencies identified by the Government Accountability Office and an internal audit released by the agency in August.

Court sides with truckers in Minnesota fatigue fight

St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota State Patrol must reverse a number of determinations of truckers found impaired due to fatigue during a 2.5-year period and ensure proper fatigue inspection training for all troopers, according to a ruling from the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota.

USFA: Firefighter deaths lowest in 17 years

Emmitsburg, MD – The total number of on-duty firefighter deaths fell for the second year in a row to a 17-year low of 87 in 2010, according to a U.S. Fire Administration report.
