Morgantown, WV — Workers in the motor vehicle towing industry face an on-the-job fatality risk nearly 15 times greater than workers in all other private industries, according to a recent study from NIOSH.

Three new videos have been added to the “Safety Shorts” series, created by the Young Professionals Division at the National Safety Council. These videos are contributed by active safety professionals and explore important topics in safety.

OSHA estimates that 5 million workers in 1.3 million workplaces are required to wear respirators. These devices protect workers from “insufficient oxygen environments, harmful dusts, fogs, smokes, mists, gases, vapors and sprays,” the agency notes, adding that compliance with its Respiratory Protection Standard “could avert hundreds of deaths and thousands of illnesses annually.”

The Transportation Safety Division of the National Safety Council will host a webinar on Feb. 28. During the free webinar, Rachael Cooper – senior program manager, substance abuse and harm prevention safety, NSC – will discuss how the use of opioids can impact the transportation industry.
