CDC issues guidance on healthy travel

Atlanta – The guide for healthy international travel issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been updated to include sections on military deployments, studying abroad and attending mass gatherings.

Released May 9, “CDC Health Information for International Travel” – nicknamed the Yellow Book – provides information to help international travelers prepare for their trips, including recommended vaccines and medications, and symptoms of common ailments.

The 2012 Yellow Book includes 13 popular itineraries; new to the guide this year are the Caribbean, Egypt and Nile River cruises, Guatemala and Belize, Hajj Pilgrimage (Saudi Arabia), Mexico, and South Africa. The guide also includes information on traveling during a disease outbreak and how to prevent traveler’s diarrhea, as well as tips for staying healthy in large gatherings such as sporting events or pilgrimages.
