Congressman criticizes delays in implementing security IDs

Washington – Rep. John L. Mica (R-FL) recently criticized the Federal Aviation Administration and the Transportation Security Administration for delays in implementing biometric identification systems to guard against security threats and terrorist attacks.

Mica made his comments April 14 at a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing. He questioned why TSA officials failed to appear at the hearing and pressed for an update on efforts to provide biometric credentials to airline pilots. He also questioned the progress of a standard from the National Institute of Standards and Technology on biometric-enabled Transportation Worker Identification Credentials for port and maritime workers. Mica told the agencies to stop wasting taxpayers’ money with continued delays.
