Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson (D) on April 8 signed legislation requiring additional safety awareness training for social workers. The law was prompted by the 2004 death of a social worker killed during a client visit.
Under House Substitute for Senate Bill No. 25 (.pdf file), applicants for first-time license renewals are required to have completed at least six hours of social worker safety awareness training as part of their continuing education requirements.
The law will go into effect in 2011.
