New plan outlines SST program for high-hazard workplaces

Washington – OSHA recently issued its annual inspection plan for high-hazard workplaces under the 2011 Site-Specific Targeting Program (.pdf file).

The SST program focuses on non-construction employers with 20 or more employees. Workplaces in the program are designated as highly hazardous based on their above-average work-related injury and illness rates.

OSHA said two changes have been made to the program. In 2010, only establishments with 40 or more employees were subject to inspections under the plan; in 2011, that number has been reduced to 20. OSHA also introduced an evaluation study to measure the program’s impact on future compliance.
