Washington – In a new manuscript, NIOSH describes its cooperative effort to protect workers responding to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill last year.
Applying lessons learned after the World Trade Center attacks and disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, NIOSH made a roster of response workers; performed health hazard evaluations; analyzed injury and illness data; developed guidance for protective measures; and conducted toxicity testing on dispersant, crude oil and mixtures of the two, according to the article.
