NTSB reviews professionalism in aviation

More needs to be done to improve aviation safety, especially when it comes to discipline, distractions and deviations, National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Deborah Hersman told attendees at a recent three-day forum on professionalism in aviation.

“As we have learned through our accident investigations, when flight crews and controllers deviate from standard operating procedures and established best practices, the consequences can be tragic,” she said May 18 during a keynote address at the Washington forum.

More than 45 panelists discussed ways to ensure excellence in pilot and air traffic controller performance to promote safety in air transportation.
