Sandy, UT – A new free mobile application from OSHA is intended to help workers and supervisors monitor the heat index at their worksites.
The app, released Aug. 11 and available in English and Spanish, uses heat index data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the worker’s location to determine protective measures. Based on the level of risk, the app recommends precautions, such as drinking fluids and adjusting work operations.
Workers can use the app to review the symptoms of heat-related illnesses and steps for first aid, and the app gives supervisors access to information on training workers on heat-related problems.
The app also can be used to contact OSHA directly.
It is available for Android devices, and OSHA plans to release versions for Blackberrys and iPhones.
