Anaheim, CA – OSHA’s final rule on walking/working surfaces to address slips, trips and falls in the workplace soon could be a reality, agency administrator David Michaels said Tuesday during a roundtable discussion at the 2016 NSC Congress & Expo.

Washington – OSHA’s final rule on preventing slips, trips and falls is scheduled for publication in August, according to the spring regulatory agenda released May 18.

A slip, trip or fall at work can lead to injuries – and even death. In 2013, injuries from slips, trips and falls resulted in 229,190 cases involving days away from work, and 724 workers died, according to the 2016 edition of the National Safety Council chartbook “Injury Facts.”

In 2012, slips, trips and falls resulted in 704 work-related deaths and roughly 220,000 cases with days away from work, according to the 2015 edition of the National Safety Council’s “Injury Facts.”

Washington – OSHA is considering another update to its Hazard Communication Standard, according to the Department of Labor’s latest semiannual regulatory agenda, released Nov. 21.

In 2011, slips, trips or falls were the cause of 14.5 percent of work-related deaths, according to the 2014 edition of the National Safety Council’s “Injury Facts.”
