All safety and health laws in the United Kingdom will undergo review, the commonwealth’s newly appointed prime minister announced Monday.
Calling for a “sensible new approach” to safety and health laws that protect people but do not “overwhelm businesses with red tape,” David Cameron tapped veteran Conservative politician David Young to head up the investigation into concerns on the application and perception of U.K. safety and health laws and what has been called the growing “compensation culture” of injury claims and litigation.
Young, who will serve as adviser to the prime minister on health and safety law and practice, is expected to report back to Cameron this summer, a press release from the prime minister’s office said.
The Health and Safety Executive, Britain’s national regulator for workplace safety and health, supports the review.
