Work at a desk? Keep ergonomics in mind

Whether you’re working remotely or back in the office, if you sit at a desk, you need to practice good ergonomics. Here are some quick tips.

  • Sit at your workspace. When you sit in your chair, are both of your feet on the floor and your knees level with your hips? If not, adjust your chair until they are. If your chair doesn’t offer proper lumbar support, you can put a cushion or pillow between the curve of your back and the back of the chair.
  • Place everything you’ll need for the day, including your phone and documents, close to your body to avoid unnecessary stretching.
  • Keep your wrist in a straight position – not bent – when typing.
  • Use a phone headset if you often talk on the phone during your workday. This will prevent you from cradling the phone between your neck and shoulder.
  • Position your screen about an arm’s length in front of you.
  • Avoid glare by keeping bright light sources to the side of your screen.
