Do you have trouble finding time to exercise during the workweek? A recent study out of Brazil suggests that completing your workouts over the weekend can be just as effective for maintaining good health.
Researchers reviewed the activity levels of more than 350,000 U.S. adults from 1997 to 2013. They found that, compared with physically inactive participants, participants who worked out regularly throughout the week or concentrated their workouts on weekends had similarly lower all-cause and cause-specific mortality rates.
The World Health Organization recommends adults get 150 to 300 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity, or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous activity, each week.
The researchers note that the findings could help public health officials promote physical activity to adults with busy weekday schedules.
The study was published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.
