Manufacturer of furniture tip-over restraint kits issues recall

New Age Industries Furniture has issued a safety recall of its furniture tip-over restraint kits, which are intended to prevent injuries.

According to a Consumer Product Safety Commission advisory, the plastic zip tie included in the kits can become brittle or break. This flaw can lead to a furniture tip-over and result in death or serious injury.

The CPSC notes that two cases of the New Age kits breaking have been reported. However, no injuries have been reported.

The kits – sold and distributed by 31 furniture companies with clothing storage units – also contain two brackets and two screws. The kits should be replaced immediately. The recall involves “millions” of kits.

The date of manufacture should be listed on a sticker or stamped on the clothing storage unit as November 2019 or later.

To receive a free replacement kit, customers can call Alliance4Safety at (855) 416-7370 or visit the group’s website at alliance4safety.org/new-age-recall.
