Save the date: Our Roads, Our Safety Week

Washington — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Our Roads, Our Safety Week is scheduled for May 5-11.

Created to raise awareness of how the driving public can safely share the road with large trucks and buses, this year’s event will extend its focus to what pedestrians and bicyclists can do to help keep roads safe.

“It’s easy to think all vehicles operate like cars,” FMCSA says. “But trucks and buses are much more difficult to maneuver, have massive blind spots and take far longer to stop. Awareness of these differences and some simple adjustments can help everyone using the roads and keep us all as safe as possible.”

FMCSA says a toolkit, scheduled for release in April, will feature talking points, printable resources, and social media graphics and messages aimed at supporting outreach efforts.

The event is set to include a safety fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern on May 8 at Department of Transportation headquarters (1200 New Jersey Ave., SE, Washington, D.C.).
