Survey explores the state of safety at manufacturing and warehousing facilities

Iselin, NJ — A recent survey of manufacturing and warehouse employees shows that 75% receive less than 30 minutes of safety training a week, while 20% receive no weekly training.

The survey was conducted by the online survey platform Centiment on behalf of Ansell, a health and safety protection solutions provider.

Of the 500 workers and “decision-makers” surveyed, 53% said they see a potential workplace hazard once or twice a week, and 25% spot hazards three to five times a week. Another 11% reported identifying hazards at least six times a week.

According to the respondents, the most effective ways employers can improve workplace safety are:

  • Respond quickly to safety hazards such as damaged equipment or spills (47%).
  • Increase real-time communication with team members about safety hazards (39%).
  • Inform employees about where, when and what personal protective equipment should be used (37%).
  • Be more transparent about how quickly safety issues are resolved (31%).

Almost all of the respondents (94%) said it’s “very important” that their employers prioritize workplace safety. Around 3 out of 4 indicated they’re more likely to stay with or join an employer who focuses on safety.
