Washington — OSHA administrator Doug Parker and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky are among the scheduled speakers at NIOSH’s third annual International Symposium on Advancing Total Worker Health.
Set for Oct. 11-14, the symposium will take place virtually and in-person at National Institutes of Health headquarters in Bethesda, MD. NIOSH defines TWH as policies, programs and practices that integrate protection from work-related safety and health hazards with the promotion of injury and illness-prevention efforts to advance employee well-being.
Walensky, NIOSH Director John Howard and L. Casey Chosewood, director of the Office for Total Worker Health at NIOSH, will deliver opening remarks Oct. 12 – the same day the virtual portion of the symposium begins.
Along with Parker, other keynote speakers include:
- U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy
- Earl Dotter, visiting scholar at the Harvard School of Public Health and known as the “American worker’s poet laureate”
- Saru Jayaraman, president of One Fair Wage and director of the Food Labor Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley
- Karina Nielsen, researcher in applied psychology, cognitive psychology and organizational psychology at the Institute of Work Psychology at the Sheffield University Management School
“Bringing together an audience of safety and health professionals, employers, researchers, policymakers, organized labor representatives, and members of the academic community, this one-of-a-kind symposium examines opportunities to make workplaces safer and to improve the health and well-being of the workforce across the world,” an NIOSH press release states.
