We all know fruits and vegetables do our bodies good. But did you know that different colors of fruits and vegetables have specific health benefits? By including a variety of them on your plate – called “eating the rainbow” – you can make sure you’re getting the illness-fighting nutrients you need to help your body function at its best.
Here are some of the fruits and veggies you can eat, by color, to reap the health benefits:
RED: Tomatoes, cherries, strawberries and red peppers
ORANGE: Sweet potatoes, carrots, oranges and peaches
YELLOW: Pineapple, sweet corn, lemons and yellow bell peppers
GREEN: Kale, broccoli, cucumbers and grapes
BLUE: Potatoes, carrots, corn (yes, these all are available in blue!) and blueberries
PURPLE: Cabbage, radishes, eggplant and plums
