OSHA maritime advisory committee to meet Nov. 19-20

Washington — OSHA’s Maritime Advisory Committee for Occupational Safety and Health is scheduled to meet Nov. 19-20 in Washington.

According to a notice published in the Oct. 28 Federal Register, the longshoring and shipyard work groups will meet Nov. 19, and the full committee is slated to convene the next day. Both meetings are set for 9 a.m. Eastern at the Department of Labor offices.

Items on the full committee meeting agenda include updates from OSHA directorates, updates on maritime enforcement activities from OSHA regions, and reports from the longshoring and shipyard work groups.

The work groups are expected to discuss worker safety in confined spaces; fire watch, lashing and mechanic safety; hazards associated with preservative coatings during hot work; and updates to and expansion of OSHA maritime safety training.

MACOSH advises OSHA on standards development, injury and illness prevention, and enforcement initiatives. The committee has not met since Aug. 10, 2016, according to meeting minutes posted on OSHA’s website.
