Kirtland Air Force Base, NM — The Air Force has released a mobile version of its Airman Safety App, which allows service members and their families to immediately report hazardous conditions or events to safety staff at their installation.
The free app, released Nov. 15, was created by the Air Force Safety Center so hazards can be communicated in a “more modern and accessible way.”
“The application has basic options which drill down specific pages where the user can describe the event, hazard or mishap,” Senior Master Sgt. Kevin Armstrong, 50th Space Wing occupational and weapons safety manager, said in a Feb. 13 press release. “The new app was designed to circumvent a lengthy, archaic process for a more streamlined approach.”
The app advances the work of the Air Force’s Airman Safety Action Program. “Additional eyes detecting hazards will likely result in decreased hazards, saving each installation immeasurable mishap and facility costs,” Armstrong said.
The center has received more than 60 reports a month that it may not have before the app launched, said Kevin Tibbs, manager of the Airman Safety Action Program. The app also includes safety data and news, as well as links to additional resources.
The Airman Safety App is available to download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, or accessed via desktop computer at asap.safety.af.mil.
