OSHA, PHMSA requesting comments ahead of United Nations GHS conferences

Washington — OSHA is scheduled to lead a public meeting on Nov. 13 in advance of the 36th session of the United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

According to a notice published in the Oct. 30 Federal Register, OSHA and the U.S. Interagency Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals Coordinating Group are seeking feedback as the federal government prepares for the UNSCEGHS conference, set for Dec. 5 to Dec. 7 in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting is slated to take place 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern at the Department of Transportation headquarters.

Beforehand, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration will host a public meeting from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern, also at DOT headquarters, to prepare for the 54th session of the United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, set for Nov. 26 to Dec. 4 in Geneva.

According to the notice, PHMSA also is requesting comments regarding potential new work items for consideration as part of its international agenda. In addition, the agency will “provide an update on recent actions to enhance transparency and stakeholder interaction through improvements to the international standards portion of its website.”
