OSHA, PHMSA seeking comments ahead of GHS conferences

Washington – OSHA is scheduled to lead a public meeting on Nov. 14 in advance of the 34th session of the United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals.

According to a notice published in the Sept. 20 Federal Register, OSHA and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, which will host the meeting, are seeking feedback as the federal government prepares for the UNSCEGHS conference, set for Dec. 6 to 8 in Geneva, Switzerland. The meeting is slated for 1 to 4 p.m. Eastern at the Department of Transportation headquarters.

OSHA is hosting the meeting “to provide interested groups and individuals with an update on GHS-related issues, and to solicit input on the development of U.S. government positions on proposals submitted to UNSCEGHS.”

Beforehand, PHMSA will host a public meeting from 9 a.m. to noon Eastern at DOT headquarters, in preparation for the 52nd session of the United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, scheduled for Nov. 27 to Dec. 6 in Geneva. According to the notice, PHMSA intends to “gain input on current proposals and discuss potential new work items for inclusion in the agenda” of the session.

DOT asks that attendees pre-register for the meetings. Both meetings also will have call-in availability and Skype capability.
