Washington – President Barack Obama has nominated T.F. Scott Darling III to head the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Darling most recently served as chief counsel and acting administrator of the agency, which has been without a permanent administrator since the August 2014 resignation of Anne S. Ferro. The Senate had not scheduled a confirmation vote for Darling as of press time. Before joining FMCSA in 2012, Darling served several leadership roles for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
He told a Senate subcommittee in March that FMCSA plans to publish a final rule this year regarding electronic logging devices in commercial motor vehicles. In a statement, Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said Darling “is committed to making our roads safer for motorists, passengers, and professional truck and bus drivers, and is constantly working with all sides to find solutions to challenges facing the industry and the motoring public.”
The Grain Valley, MO-based Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association also praised Darling’s nomination. OOIDA President and CEO Jim Johnston said in a press release that Darling has been “open and receptive” to the group’s input.
