Washington – January is National Radon Action Month, and the Environmental Protection Agency is reminding people to test their homes for the colorless, odorless radioactive gas.
Radon can be dangerous at high levels. According to EPA, radon-related lung cancer kills approximately 21,000 people in the United States every year.
As part of its “Test, Fix, Save a Life” campaign, EPA is urging people to hire a qualified tester or use a do-it-yourself kit to check levels in their home, and to install a vent pipe and fan if levels are above 4 pCi/L.
