Falls Church, VA – The American Industrial Hygiene Association on Oct. 31 issued guidance about safely removing corrosive drywall from buildings.
Corrosive drywall releases sulfide gases, which affect indoor air quality and can interact with metal, resulting in damage to electrical and mechanical systems in the building, according to AIHA. The guidance document explains how to assess structures for corrosive drywall and safely execute corrective measures to restore air quality. Recommendations include protecting workers from hazards during the removal process and setting up controls to eliminate dust and odors from the drywall.
