OSHA seeking comment on infectious disease exposure

OSHA is accepting comment until Aug. 4 on occupational exposure to infectious diseases in health care settings as part of an effort (.pdf file) to determine future agency action on the issue.

OSHA specifically requested information on tasks that potentially expose workers to infectious diseases; successful employee infection programs; training; and control methodologies such as work practices, engineering and administrative controls, and personal protective equipment, according to an OSHA press release.

Relevant settings include hospitals, outpatient clinics, school clinics, correctional facilities, laboratories that handle potentially infectious biological materials, medical examiner offices and mortuaries.
