Wanted: roofing supervisor input on industry safety

College Station, TX — A team from Texas A&M University is asking commercial and residential roofing safety managers and supervisors to take part in a survey that explores safety practices and psychological drivers in the industry.

The researchers said they intend to use the results of the survey to inform research for a study funded by the Roofing Alliance, which has a membership of “more than 200 contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and industry professionals.” The study will investigate “why some roofing employees do not follow safety practices or do so unwillingly or inconsistently, despite having access to equipment, incentives and training,” a university press release states.

“We are committed to investing in research projects that help advance the roofing industry – especially when it comes to safety,” Roofing Alliance Executive Director Alison La Valley said in a separate release. “The findings of this study will result in the development of evidence-based interventions and foster a personal commitment to safety.”
