Chicago — OSHA recently extended a Regional Emphasis Program on noise hazards through the end of the year.
The Chicago Region’s REP was initially set to expire May 31.
“OSHA’s review of this REP shows success in identifying and targeting industries with hearing loss rates higher than the national average and encouraging employers to take steps to identify, reduce and eliminate hazards associated with exposure to high noise levels,” an agency notice says.
The REP began June 1, 2021. From that date through March of this year, the Chicago Region has performed 416 noise-related inspections and issued 660 citations under 1910.95.
The notice adds that 364 outreach tasks have taken place, affecting around 467,000 employees.
