COVID-19 respiratory protection: OSHA training institute webinar available

Dallas — The OSHA Region 6 Training Institute Education Centers has developed a webinar on the proper implementation of a respiratory protection program during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The free one-hour webinar is intended to employer and employee awareness of the exposure hazards in the workplace, along with the need for and proper use of respiratory protection. The topics covered are:

  • What is COVID-19?
  • Respiratory protection
  • Respiratory written program requirements
  • Education and training
  • Tools and resources

Employers must think about preventing exposures while also providing the appropriate equipment and protection to help keep workers safe, the training institute states. The presentation focuses on face coverings and different types of respirators, along with which ones offer the best protection for workers who need to work in close proximity.

 

Also addressed are the benefits and drawbacks of the use of N95 respirators, surgical masks and cloth facial coverings. Proper fit, cleaning and maintenance, and training on the use of each type of respirator during emergencies are discussed as well.
