Hey, employers: Does your organization offer its employees a workplace wellness program?

A new year is the perfect time to launch a wellness program to show workers you care about their health and well-being.

“Wellness benefits can take many forms, and they can be as simple or as complex as the employer desires,” the Society for Human Resource Management says.

Some of the more common wellness benefits offered include employee assistance programs, exercise programs, fitness center discounts, health screenings, nutrition education and smoking cessation programs.

When communicating the details of the workplace wellness program to employees, SHRM says employers should:
Make it relevant. “A wellness program should speak to all interests and concerns of employees,” the organization says.
Promote teamwork. A successful workplace wellness program takes a “we’re all in this together” approach.
Be positive. Encourage employees on their journey to better health.
Keep information confidential. “Organizations with wellness programs should ensure they have covered all the bases regarding data integrity, safety, security and regulatory compliance.”
