Michigan OSHA awards nearly $900K in worker safety and health grants

Lansing, MI — Michigan OSHA has awarded $870,000 in grants to 18 labor unions and nonprofit organizations to promote worker safety and health throughout the state.

The annual grant program, which supplements the agency’s Consultation Education and Training Division, provides funding for the development of training aimed at small and medium-sized employers.

The Center for Workplace Violence Prevention Inc. received $85,000 (the largest grant total) to support the creation of its training programs. Offered to businesses, health care facilities, retail stores and schools, the programs focus on designing workplace violence prevention programs, lone worker safety, de-escalation skills and personal safety strategies.

Other training grant recipients will aim their efforts at controlling exposure to silica dust, providing workplace mental health awareness, developing and delivering tree trimming and chainsaw education, and creating first responder safety courses.

“These grants represent our ongoing commitment to equipping Michigan’s workforce with high-quality safety training,” MIOSHA Director Bart Pickelman said in a press release. “We are proud to partner with organizations that meet the specific safety needs of diverse industries, helping workers stay safe and businesses thrive.”

A full list of grant recipients, and a description of their projects, is available on the Michigan LEO website.
